CRP (Collateral Repair Project) in Amman, Jordan
Collateral Repair Project (CRP) was started in 2006 by two American women who saw a need for direct connection between citizens of coalition countries and innocent Iraqis who suffered from the consequences of war
Collateral Repair Project (CRP is a grassroots organization in Amman, Jordan that seeks to bring much-needed assistance to refugees and vulnerable Jordanians through community-led and trauma-informed programs.
CRP is made up of two community centers: the first in Hashemi Al Shamali, which is home to many Iraqi and Syrian refugees as well as Jordanians; and a second center, in Amman’s old downtown–home to Sudani, Somali, and Yemeni refugees as well as many others.
According to the most recent UNHCR report, there are almost 800,000 registered refugees living in Jordan as of February 2023, and 82% of these refugees live outside camps–the majority in urban neighborhoods in Amman. Refugees living outside camps are largely unable to receive aid from international organizations. Furthermore, most refugees do not have the right to work in Jordan, meaning that they are unable to support themselves or provide for their families. Refugees in Jordan require a sustainable solution because for many their situation is not temporary–less than 2% of refugees worldwide will be resettled.
CRP offers a community for this vulnerable population and seeks to integrate them and support them with building a new life. From emergency assistance to language and computer classes, men’s support groups to women’s empowerment, recreational and art programs to whole family counseling, CRP has a robust schedule of programs for the men, women, and children in their communities. In addition, CRP hosts a range of livelihood programs that provide service to the community and teach participants the skills needed for finding future employment and leading a more well-rounded life. These include a men’s barber shop and women’s salon, home maintenance, an upcycling program, a craft collective called Hope Workshop, and Hope Kitchen. Between 2018 and 2022, CRP served over 37,000 families, and with continued donations and grants, CRP aims to continue providing for these families and many more.

A Check Up from Educational Consultant, Beryl Cheal
“CRP is honored to welcome back Beryl Cheal, our education consultant, this month who is here to check up on us and help us improve our youth programs. With her invaluable 60 years experience working with children, CRP is lucky to able to benefit from her expertise. Beryl visited CRP last fall through a grant from FAWCO and helped us develop our SuperGirls program. Our second class of SuperGirls just graduated and our third class has just begun, so this is the perfect time for Beryl to reassess our program.”
